What are the Characteristics?
Action.
The characteristics of the genre action are:
- Spectacular physical action.
- Narrative emphasis on fights.
- Chases.
- Explosions.
- Combination of state of the art special effects and stunt work.
- Simple story structure.
As shown in the Movie Batman the simple story structure is shown, by the start is Batman finding his superpowers the middle bit is where he finds his opponent normally it results in an action paced fight scene which Batman wins. Then the end is normally the final result where the past scenes have built up the ending. This isn't just Batman many other films follow the same layout and structure.
As shown in the image above the start (Exposition) starts by meeting the character learning about them and their background. The middle (Climax) is the the suspense built section and the then the ending (Denouement) where the final results of the story play out. Between the Start Middle and End their are scenes showing the backstory and the characters past this is to give the audience some more insight of why they are now and how the past has changed them and how they act.
Horror.
The characteristics of the genre horror are:
- Creating fear for the audience when watching.
- From Ancient Origin.
- Folk Literature.
- Can include - Ghosts, Witches or Vampires.
- They alike to use jump scares and create suspense.
- There is mostly more action that dialogue.
With the image above there are more scenes and sections to the climax of a horror where the action increases and increases as the movie develops for then there to be the climax and then slowly the amount of action decreases and a resolution come to play.
