Research - Mise En Scene.

Locations.

Aldenham School.

  • Large empty fields could be a good idea if we wanted a chase scene.
  • Older buildings for again chase scenes, and could add context.
Hemel Hempstead.
  • Train Station.
  • Woodland.
  • Empty roads.
  • Car parks.
London.
  • Can add context if needed.
  • Noting Hill.
  • Buckingham Palace.
  • London Eye.
  • River Thames.
  • Tourist attractions.

Costumes.
  • Suits as this can be if we choose to have a more smart and formal scene.
  • Tracksuits if we choose to look more informal and relaxed.
In this image it is from the movie Kingsman. As seen in the image the characters are both in suits making the the scene look more formal and making the characters looking smarter. With that the storyline is about spies and the stereotype is spies wear suits and are smartly dressed, this could influence my decision when creating my scene if I decide to make the story which includes spies or not.
In this image it is from the movie Blue Story. As shown in the image the characters are in tracksuits a less formal costume. The storyline is about London gangs and it shows what life is like in a gang. This could also help influence my decision when making my opening scene as maybe I may want to look less formal, just by wearing tracksuits doesn't mean you are in a gang but if we are trying to link two things together etc it could help. Or possibly the storyline I choose to go with makes more sense for me to wear a tracksuit than more of a formal look.

For costumes we need to think about the following:
  • Location.
  • Wealth.
  • Personality.
  • Time.
  • Gender.
  • Age.
  • Year.
  • Storyline.
Props.
  • Backpack - If it has something in.
  • Fake gun - Shooting scene.
  • Fake knife - Close encounter fight scene.
  • Car - Chase scene.
  • Money.
  • Phone.
  • Book.

For props if I choose to include one I may want to make it symbolic, I would do this by including it in every scene. Or possibly have represent different things such as an example I could go with a book though the audience may just see it as a book with the storyline and with using it in every scene I could change the perspective of the book as I could act as if it a phone, or a diamond this creates a symbolic image that may change every scene. This could also leave the audience asking questions wanting to know more, the feeling of intrigue that grabs the audiences attention.

I could also include many props including phones, a backpack etc. These props may not change and will shows and symbolise what they actually are. It all depends on what makes sense with the storyline and what would make the opening scene look the best.

Music.
  • Fast flowing songs to show tension and suspense.
  • Gives emotional responses.
  • Adds context.
  • Music can make or break a scene.
  • Diegetic music.
For music I need to think of how I would want to include music into my opening scene. If I want to have music playing in the background throughout or just in various moments. All things I need to think of. I also need to think about the kind of music if I want words as well or just the backing track. As well as think about the speed of any music I may possibly need to speed it up or slow it down so it matches the flow of the scene. The song would need to link with the emotional feel of the scene if I am trying to portray a sad and unhappy feel and I played a happy song it wouldn't look good so I would target slower songs and possibly songs that links to sadness. In any fast motion scenes I may include a faster sounding song or backing track may add to the speed in the scene. It can also add any context needed if when reviewing what I have created a song or backing track may add some needed context to understand the opening that little bit more. I also need to think about if I need music in some areas of my scenes, not to over do it with music as that may not look as good with music played at wrong times.

Lighting.
  • Three Point Lighting.
  • Low-key Lighting.
  • High key Lighting.
Lighting needs to be thought about and discussed before filming as lighting can help with the emotional feel of a scene and the time of day. If I choose to include a sad scene I may want the set to look darker so I would use low-key lighting for that or possibly a happier feel to a scene so I would use high key lighting. All this should be discussed before filming a scene as when editing it wont be easy to make a scene look lighter or darker without it looking edited.

As shown in the image below, are all the types of lighting I could use it also gives the effect that each lighting makes. Using this I can go through it and look what lighting gives what effect so I can achieve the feeling of the scene effectively using the lighting. This ultimately can help with my decision making when choosing what lighting to use ass it is all there in the image, telling me what lighting, the effect and the ways to achieve the lighting I am aiming for.
